Rajat, a simple-minded man loves his neighbour Jayanti. His streetwise cousin, Bishwanath, along with Bishwanath's associate, Samir, try to coach him on the mysterious ways of women. At the same time, the two try to get Rajat's elderly and tightfisted guardian Bagalcharan to cough up some money so they can make European-style art film. One day Supta came to Bagalacharan's house and gave Biswanath a cheque of rupees seventy thousand for the film company. Bagalacharan was highly impressed by it. Supta gave a unique advice to Bagalacharan. Bagala's late wife had kept a huge amount of gold ornaments for Rajat's would be wife. Those ornaments were insured. Supta adviced him to steal those ornaments and sells it to Natoraj Samanta. By this Bagalacharan would be a double gainer. He will not only get the money from the insurance company but also get the equal from Natoraj Samanta by selling those ornaments to him. So a plan to eye washes both the insurance company and the police was being chalked out. Natoraj and Raghua, alias Gajanan, were good friends. Those were in jail for six months in the past. But Bagalacharan knew that they were college friends. Bagalacharan in then mean time gave Biswanath ten thousand rupees for the film company. One day the theft of the ornaments was organsed and the was done perfectly under the supervision of Gajanan. Supta was trying to be close to Rajat. Jayanti misunderstood him. In the mean time Bagalacharan came to know the real identity of Gajanan. He parcelled all the ornaments to the town and kept the receipt with Rajat. Having a round table discussion between Gajanan, Natoraj and Supta it was decided that any how they should take the receipt from Rajat, but their plan failed. Rajat locked three of them in a room. Rajat threatened them that he would hand over them police. Supta said that in that case Bagalacharan had to go to jail for stealing the ornaments. Rajat came to Bagalacharan and said that if he didn't settle the dispute of the garden with Haranath, he would report every thing to the police. So Bagalacharan had to settle the dispute. Rajat and Jayanti reunited.
